My dachshund's name is Buster Baxter James Brown McQuade (Apparently he gets names added to his title as he advances through life lol). Originally he was just named Buster after the adorable dachshund on Toy Story 2 and 3. My mother called him Buster Brown from the Buster Brown shoes comic dog, I started calling him Buster Baxter off of the cartoon "Arthur", a friend of mine gave him the middle name James for James Brown and my boyfriend added McQuade. He also goes by the name Lil Dude. Lol.
Anyway, I came into the parentage of Buster in the second week of October 2010, just three months after I had moved from Casa Grande, Arizona to Roslyn, Washington. I was 18 and had recently given up my loving, adorable. though misbehaved, American Black and Tan Coonhound named Barney Roo because he couldn't quite fit on the Greyhound bus. Because of this, I wanted a small dog, one I could carry with me and at first I posted on Craigslist looking for a "Pom-Chi" or a Pomeranian Chihuahua mix since they're only supposed to weigh around 5 pounds at the most. But while browsing, I also saw a beautiful, long-haired blonde dachshund pup that I almost purchased but he had already been sold. After maybe two weeks of searching, a woman contacted me through my mom's cell phone and said, "I have a doxie, he's red and he'll only ever get to be 10 pounds, he's also a pure breed but he doesn't have papers."
Of course I was skeptical, why would he not have papers if he was a purebreed but I replied and asked for pictures. It was love at first sight. He was the most adorable long nosed, big eared dachshund I had ever seen in my life and I instantly wanted him. I asked how much and the woman replied, "$50, but I'm in the Tri-Cities, it'll be an extra $30 if you want me to bring him to you." I agreed and within two days I had my new puppy. He had no balls (my grandma pointed out lol) since he was only 3 1/2 months but everyone thought he must definatly be older than that because he was the most obedient, calm, quiet little dog in the whole world. He acted like a retired 8 year old! I miss those days lol.
As he grew so did his idea that exploration was fun and that being sneaky was a good thing. Though I only paid $80 for him initially, I've spent at least $150 getting him out of the pound and similar trouble! Right now, Buster is about 1 year and 9 months old and a dog's dog, meaning he doesn't quite like people but gets along with ALL dogs. He's unneutered (because I don't believe in altering) and knows a myriad of tricks, some of them being sit, down, stay, sit pretty and off as well as up. He loves going to the dog park and getting treats as well as hogging the bed. He HATES riding in cars and cries the whole time (if someone knows a remedy to this please let me know, I've yet to look online though) and can't stand people trying to pet him (he'll bark at them or growl, while when little kids rough handle him, he'll snap but he doesn't snap when daddy and mommy toss him around like a rag doll haha, he loves that and plays like a puppy).
So much for 10 pounds, Buster Baxter James Brown McQuade, though not overweight, weighs a wopping 23 pounds and is a standard dachshund even though his parents (a dapple long-hair and a red short-hair) are both minis. Lastly, because his parents are different hair lengths, he has sort of long/short hair and a little curl on the end of his tail like a candle wick. I love him very dearly!
Btw, if anyone lives near Seattle, Washington and you are selling female dapple dachshunds, comment here or better yet message me. I'm really looking into buying a little girl right now. (Unfixed and under 4 months)
